Canterbury City Council increased the charges for all of their car parks across the district on April 1st. As a resident you can sign up for a Residents Rate Permit which will reduce the cost of your parking by 10% in car parks, and 20% in Park and Ride.
Most of the car parks now work using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). If you haven’t done so, you can sign up for an account with the Council. You supply your car registration number, a credit/debit card and a email address. You can now drive out of the car park without parting with cash. Your card is charged, and a receipt is sent by email.

The Residents Rate Permit is a separate system, and if you already have an ANPR account, then you MUST register for this as well. You have to supply email, your address and proof of your identity and proof you are a resident. I scanned my driving licence and uploaded the scan, because this provides both types of proof that’s needed. The permit is currently free. Once you are registered, you need to apply for a permit for your vehicle, and it’s here that you supply your car registration number.
