Earlier this week members of the Parish Council met with the proprietors of The Quaives.
During our visit, we shared the views of local residents and received an overview of current activities.
We expressed the concern some residents have raised about lighting, and their impact on the area. The proprietors were sympathetic to these comments, and have agreed initially to:
- Reduce the amount of bulbs by 50%
- Physically lower the lighting strings from 10 feet to half that to reduce external visibility.
Should these actions not give the desired result, they are open to more discussions about ways to reduce light pollution further. It’s worth noting that lighting is necessary as a Health & Safety requirement.
Currently, The Quaives site has requested a license to serve alcohol as part of their dining provision for guests. Should local residents wish to find out more about this application, or comment (by July 14th), more details are available by sending an email to anton.walden@canterbury.gov.uk.
We welcome the commitment made by The Quaives to engage more closely with the local community and Parish Council on their plans, and we look forward to more dialogue going forwards. The Quaives team have asked us to add “The Quaives team – led husband and wife, Clare & Dan – look forward to working closely with the local community and Parish Council, and developing a positive and collaborative relationship for the future.”
